We have another nerve to wake up because it seems like Floyd Mayweather is ready to take on Manny Pacquiao as long as Pacman is willing to take the never ending random blood tests for performance enhancing drugs that Floyd wants him to take. We are very excited for this one although we might loss our appetites on this before it will gonna happen. Mayweather insisted that he must take the test to have a fight. This undefeated boxer also talks about the possibility that Pacquiao could be beaten once more because he was beaten 3 times and was even knocked out twice. But I guess this guy is hysterical (Mayweather) because that was Pacquiao’s earlier boxing career.

But the random drug tests seem to be the bonding point. If we can still remember, Pacquiao and Mayweather couldn’t be in agreement when they endeavored to put a fight together a year ago, because Manny wanted a 24 day cutoff before the fight and Mayweather wanted the testing to go up until 2 weeks or 14 days before the fight. Crazy!

Why these things still come out? And now we have another US$100 Million for Mayweather to fight? Why Mayweather didn’t ask for it in his previous fights like with Dela Hoya? Mayweather vs Mosley - If this fight was to have taken place 10 years ago with Shane Mlosley (46-5, 39 KO’s) a young 28-year-old and Floyd Mayweather Jr. (40-0, 25 KO’s) the older 33-year-old opponent, I could see Mosley emerging as the winner of the fight. The problem is Shane is now 38, and hasn’t fought in over a year as he comes into their May 1st fight at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. I don’t particularly care how well Mosley did against the slow Antonio Margarito in his last fight. Mosley isn’t facing Margarito on May 1st, and he’s coming off of a long layoff.

That spells defeat, anyway you want to look at it. Mayweather is the best fighter in the welterweight division, period. I’m sorry, but I think Mayweather will wipe the deck with the small Manny Pacquiao when/if they ever fight. But right now, there’s no one that can touch Mayweather, least of all Mosley. I think things are going to go really badly for Mosley in this fight. He doesn’t have the movement, the hand speed or the jab to compete with Mayweather and I think he’s going to get riddled to pieces in this fight.

It’s going to be one of those sad fights in which the old fighter gets beaten to a pulp and is made to look all of their age. Mosley is still a good fighter and I think he could beat the likes of Pacquiao, and the rest of the welterweight division. But Mayweather is a lot better than Pacquiao and a lot better than Mosley and the rest of the welterweight division. This is going to be a hopeless mismatch for Mosley. I just hope he doesn’t get beaten too badly.

I don’t want the guy to be finished completely as a fighter. I want Mayweather to take it easy on Mosley when it gets really bad late in the fight. In Mayweather’s last fight against another old fighter, the 36-year-old Juan Manuel Marquez, Mayweather dominated Marquez like he was beating a schoolboy. This is kind of how I see this fight going. I think Mosley is going to be in way over his head in this fight and unable to cope with Mayweather’s superior hand speed and defensive ability.

Mosley looked really bad in his fight before his last one against Ricardo Mayorga, getting beaten to the punch through most of the fight until he stopped Mayorga in the 12th round. Although incredibly two of the judges had Mosley in the lead at the time he stopped Mayorga, a lot of other people felt that Mosley was on the verge of losing the fight to Mayorga had he not been able to stop him in the last round. I thought the judges’ scores were ridiculous. I had Mayorga easily winning the fight. Mosley just couldn’t throw enough punches and he really undermined his own case in the fight by constantly clinching after throwing shots. That kind of thing doesn’t work when you’re fighting someone that is throwing a lot of punches like Mayorga was.

Mayweather vs Mosley Fight Online - The first part of the HBO 24/7 series featuring Floyd Mayweather and Shane Mosley confirmed what most suspected.

Floyd Mayweather will be reprising his villain role in the piece, while Mosley is being portrayed as some kind of modern day Rocky. Complete with a training montage in a snowy Big Bear and later on the famous soundtrack as well.

Showing himself to be as vacuous as ever, Mayweather uses a the air time to brag about his money, insult Mosley at every turn and even squeezes in a little pad work.

Whether his over the top personality is just for the cameras or just who he is is difficult to tell at times. It appears Mayweather freely flits between his several personalities without even noticing it.

Mayweather on Mosley:

"I made more money in my last two fights than you made in your whole career"

One minute polite and measured, the next vitriolic about how much he has achieved and how much money he has made. Its the Mayweather everyone has come to expect, and he doesn't disappoint for those who find his antics both repellant and yet compelling at the same time. Which is probably just about everyone watching.

Mosley is the guy everyone would like to be on a bowling team with, (watch the video) but Mayweather is the guy everyone wants to watch shooting his mouth off on camera. Although Mosley is probably a nice guy when the cameras aren't around, and Floyd's one dimensional 'Money' character surely couldn't be as obnoxious behind closed doors.

"You can have your own opinion about Floyd Mayweather. But you don't know me and before you judge me first look at your situation and look at where you at and clear your problems up before you worry about my problems because I'm ok"

This seems to be an odd statement for a man who lives to attract attention. On the one hand Mayweather seems to like the attention he gets, but at the same time resents the fact that he is the most hated man in boxing. But then you can't have it both ways.

Mayweather doesn't elaborate on which problems we shouldn't be judging him on, which makes you wonder why he would bring it up. His recent money problems seem to be the most obvious though, and presumably anyone who didn't know that will probably have looked it up by now.

The episode also showed the procedures that the USADA testing uses for testing the fighters. Far from a few drops of blood the requirements actually looked more like two vials per testing. The narrator also says that it was the third time in ten days that the testing crew had been to Big Bear in 10 days, and that should a positive test be revealed, the fight would immediately be called off.

So the results not having been made public just yet is probably not anything to worry about. Also the blood testing is perhaps more invasive than it was made out to be, neither Floyd or Shane seem to mind though and both continue with their day without any apparent soreness.

World Boxing Association welterweight champion Shane Mosley has already been tested five times for drugs, according to Boxing Fanhouse. Mosley, 38, isn’t bothered at all by the blood tests for the urinalysis, and sees it as a good thing. Both Mosley and Floyd Mayweather Jr. have agreed to the United States Anti-Doping Agency testing protocols for their May 1st bout at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mosley says “I could see how fighters would not like this…But at the same time, I kind of like it. It’s truly a good thing. I think that it’s great for the sport.”

The tests for steroids and human growth hormone will continue to be randomly conducted for both fighters up until their fight next month on May 1st. One would hope that the Olympic style drug tests that Mayweather and Mosley are using for their fight be adopted by the Nevada and New York Athletic Commissions so that more rigorous testing will be done for boxers. As of now, only urine is checked. The problem that might prevent the blood testing to be implemented by the two commissions is the cost. It would likely cost more money for fighters to be randomly tested rather than having them take the usual urinalysis.

Roach picks Floyd over Mosley

Mayweather vs Mosley Fight - MANILA, Philippines - Manny Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach is predicting that Floyd Mayweather Jr. will beat WBA welterweight champion Sugar Shane Mosley by decision in their 12-round bout in Las Vegas on May 1.

If Mayweather dethrones Mosley, it will only be logical for Pretty Boy to face Pacquiao, who holds the WBO title, in a unification showdown. Pacquiao is now recognized as the world’s No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter, an honor that was once Mayweather’s until he retired over two years ago. Mayweather is now back in active ring duty and itching to reclaim his throne.

“Shane’s my friend and I hope he wins but he has trouble with speed and movement and likes guys to come to him so it’s going to be difficult,” said Roach in a guest column on London’s Boxing News.

Roach, who has been involved in a word war with Mayweather’s foul-mouthed father Floyd Sr., seemed reconciliatory in remarking that “I like Floyd as a person ...out of the Mayweathers, he’s one of the better ones.”

The celebrated Wild Card Gym of Los Angeles owner said Mayweather has never disrespected him and always calls him Mr. Roach. But in anticipation of a duel with Pacquiao, Roach said it’s likely that Mayweather will turn against him in the process of hyping what is being billed as the “Fight of the Decade.”

“Floyd’s scared of my guy,” said Roach. “I let him use my gym when he was doing ‘Dancing With The Stars’ before the Ricky Hatton fight and I’ve known him since he was a little kid. He’s not a bad guy. But the only way the fight with Manny is going to happen is we go by the commission drug-testing rules.”

Roach said just like every fan, he’s looking forward to a Pacquiao-Mayweather battle. Still, he expressed doubt that it will push through “if (Mayweather) tries to bring in his own company for Olympic-style testing or any of that rubbish, the fight’s not going to happen.”

Roach, 50, said if the Mayweather-Mosley winner dodges Pacquiao, boxing will suffer a serious blow.

“Let’s face it, people want to see Pacquiao-Mayweather,” said Roach, quoted by Bob Velin in USA Today. “If the Mayweather-Mosley winner doesn’t come around, where do we have to go? We’re going to do whatever it takes to make that fight. The only thing we won’t do is to let Floyd call the shots and make the rules because he’s not that big. Any commission test and sanctioning body test, we’ll do. But we will not do private testing with a company that Floyd hires.”

The issue of blood-testing derailed plans to stage a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight last March. Mayweather insisted on Olympic-style random blood-testing even the day or hours before the fight while Pacquiao said he will agree to the examination only up to 14 days leading to the bout.

“Floyd doesn’t realize that he’s killing his own sport,” said Roach. “I get upset that some people can’t accept that Manny’s just a great fighter. Manny is one of the hardest-working people I’ve ever seen. He has a lot of distractions around him but once he comes through the gym doors, all that goes away.”

Mayweather has accused Pacquiao of taking performance enhancing drugs or steroids to maintain his speed and power while moving up and down different weight divisions. But what Mayweather failed to appreciate is the scientific conditioning program that Pacquiao undergoes in invading higher weight classes.

Since Pacquiao contracted conditioning coach Alex Ariza for his assault on the WBC lightweight title held by David Diaz in 2008, he has been unstoppable. With Ariza in his team, Pacquiao has won three world titles in two years – lightweight, lightwelterweight and welterweight – to add to his collection that now lists seven championships in different divisions.

So far in his career as a trainer, Roach has worked with 27 world champions. Pacquiao is No. 1 in his list of clients.

“I think I have the best fighters in the world, that’s why I’m the best trainer,” he said. “When the bell rings, I sit down and they fight. My key to success is hanging out with good fighters. I’m probably having more fun than I ever had in my life.”

Roach said there’s no short-cut to success and it’s all about working hard.

“I know my job but when they get in the ring, I sit down so I give the credit to them,” he continued. “But I like getting the Trainer of the Year award which the Boxing Writers Association of America awarded me for the fourth time recently because it’s named after my trainer and mentor Eddie Futch so it’s a great honor. Training fighters is all I do. I don’t have time for anything else.”

Boxing writer Bert Randolph Sugar said, “Freddie Roach is up there among the all-time greats. Like a jockey with a racehorse, a trainer is known by the productivity of his fighters. And Freddie’s done one hell of a job.”

The Floyd Mayweather vs. Shane Mosley May 1 fight in Las Vegas is "historic" according to the hype. That was made clear at the fight's press conference in Los Angeles on Thursday when various promoters likened it to Ali vs. Foreman or one of numerous Sugar Ray Leonard classics.

And they said it with a straight face. Among those spouting the hyperbole was the president of Golden Boy Promotions, the home of Sugar Shane Mosley and a former fighter himself. You might know him, Oscar De La Hoya? He lost to both of the contestants in this mega-fight and now promotes one and has an interest in the other if and when he fights Manny Pacquiao.

As if that weren't enough, De La Hoya and his fellow exec at Golden Boy, Richard Schaefer told the assembled crowd (the presser was open to the public) that this kind of fight only comes along once in a generation. But it wasn't over yet, not even close.

De La Hoya announced that

"You have the two best fighters on the planet today fighting on May 1."

That's where the cringing started and the crowd didn't react as I'm sure he had hoped. No one booed or threw things but there was no particularly positive reaction either. Among the assembled media we looked at each other and just rolled our eyes.

The elephant in the room was the name that was never spoken: Manny Pacquiao. Even Floyd Mayweather must have felt obliged to make some reference to why he was fighting Mosley in Vegas rather than Pacquiao in Dallas next weekend.

Mayweather is a crusader now. He's fighting for truth, justice and clean boxing. He gratuitously threw out the following,

I'm trying to clean up my sport", Floyd said. "That is why we are both (he and Mosley) taking random urine and blood tests.

The stated goal of the promotion companies is to sell three million pay-per-views for this fight. That would blow away anything numbers Pacquiao has pulled in for his bouts and surely will be used in any new negotiations between the Mayweather and Manny camps. Maybe they are thinking of trading the demand for blood testing for a larger share of the gross revenue rather than the 50/50 split.

To accomplish the PPV goal the hype and talking points were added to the Procter & Gamble-like marketing plan outlined by Schaefer. Pay-per-view discounts are available with the purchase of six and twelve-packs of Tecate beer and De Walt power tools sold at Home Depot. They've already got a soap opera up and running so why not use consumer products to sell it. Hey, it's historic, right?

Because in doing so, it puts Floyd Mayweather in an excellent position to outsell the Pacquiao-Clottey fight by a significant margin. This is in turn will cause Mayweather to demand a bigger slice of the revenue for a fight against Pacquiao in the future. Mayweather would likely feel justified in doing so if he can point to his better numbers for pay-per-view than Pacquiao.

It probably won’t matter how many backsides that Pacquiao’s promotional team put in seats at the Dallas Cowboy stadium on March 13th, the real money will be coming from pay-per-view buys, and if Mayweather does a lot better than Pacquiao, we likely can forget about a future fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao. Unless Pacquiao was willing to accept a smaller slice of the piece below 50%, which I seriously doubt, then we wouldn’t likely be seeing a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight.

I like Pacquiao and think he’s a great fighter, but he can’t do it alone. He needs a big star opposite him to get the kinds of numbers that will outsell Mayweather-Mosley. The choice of Clottey might have been a great idea at the time that he was selected by Pacquiao’s promotional company Top Rank, because Clottey after all fights for Top Rank as does Pacquiao, meaning that the company wouldn’t have to share the profits for a fight with another company. But they needed someone a little better known than Clottey to bring in the huge numbers that would outdo a Mayweather fight.

Clottey just isn’t well known enough to the casual fans to make him someone that fans think could actually beat him. I’ve spoken to number casual boxing fans that often purchase pay-per-view events involving Pacquiao, and in every case, none of them have heard of Clottey. When I ask them if they think he has a chance against Pacquiao, ever one of them said “no.”

When you have a fighter that few people have ever heard of, it takes a lot of marketing to sell the fight to the public. In this case, there will need to be an HBO 24/7 series to try make the unknowing fans aware of who Clottey. But even that won’t likely be enough to cause people to want to buy the Pacquiao-Clottey fight in the kinds of numbers that Mayweather-Mosley fight will be bringing in.

And that’s really unfortunate if that does take place, because it pretty much will seal the fate of a potential Mayweather-Pacquiao bout down the road. In hindsight, Pacquiao’s team should have dug up a super star or a reasonable facsimile thereof. Having Pacquiao-Clottey jammed down our throats is about as appealing as eating a big plate of spinach and liverwurst.

If you were starving for a fight you might watch it, but it’s not the kind of fight that people will look forward to like the Mayweather-Mosley bout. And it won’t likely do nearly as well as the Mayweather-Mosley fight in terms of pay-per-view buys.

Mayweather-Mosley: Setting the Record Straight

By Alexander Fugate: When Mayweather and Mosley were first reported to be in negotiations, there were many that said Floyd is a ducker and will never face anyone as dangerous as Mosley. Once the contracts were signed, it became, Floyd won’t follow through, he will fake an injury or something. Now, that some time has passed since Mayweather-Mosley first came to light, there are many that claim Mayweather never wanted this fight and was forced into it by public pressure.

The first fact that should be brought up is that in 1999 Mayweather challenged Mosley. At the time, Floyd was a 22 year old junior lightweight champion. After dominating wins over Genaro Hernandez and highly regarded Angel Manfredy, who hadn’t lost since his fifth professional fight over 4 ½ years earlier. Mosley was a 27 or 28 year old lightweight champion. They were both regarded as the best in their respective divisions. “The Ring” magazine was excited by the idea and featured both fighters on the same cover. However, Mosley had different ideas. Shortly after, Mosley jumped two weight divisions to fight at 147 and set-up a fight with Oscar De La Hoya in 2000, in Mosley’s third fight at that weight.

It would be years before a Mayweather-Mosley fight was again a real possibility and something the public wanted to see. It was anticipated again in 2006 after Mosley knocked out Fernando Vargas in their second match. After the fight Mayweather seemed eager to fight “Sugar” Shane. The New York Times caught up with “Money May” and captured Floyd’s buoyant and brash demeanor with some characteristic quotes from the superstar. “I would love to fight Mosley. He makes too many mistakes.” And “Mosley’s been ducking me for 10 years now. I’ve been chasing Shane Mosley forever. I can’t keep chasing the guy.” He went on to say “I’ve got to talk to Jin, she runs the show.” Jin was Mosley’s wife at the time. Floyd was hoping to face Mosley later that year.

Prior to that fight with Vargas, Mosley heard of Mayweather hoping to face him later in the year. Badlefthook has quoted Mosley as saying “They can stop thinking about that because it won’t happen.”However, his devastating knockout of Vargas left fans clamoring for a superfight with Floyd. In his post-fight interview HBO’s Larry Merchant asked about this possibility. Shane said, “I had planned to go on trips and stuff like that.” He went on to say that he knew Floyd had a date in November reserved and that after that they could meet up in 2007. The only problem with this is that Oscar De La Hoya was already planning on fighting Mayweather in May of 07. This was already known. A fight with De La Hoya would bring a much bigger payday for Floyd and eventually did set records for most revenue and most PPV buys for any fight in boxing history. Merchant questioned Mosley on why he wouldn’t fight Mayweather later in 2006 when the opportunity was there and when it could bring him his biggest payday yet. Shane answered, “….um, my tooth is a little loose right now.” Shane never would agree to fight Mayweather that year. Mayweather went on to win three more fights, before retiring at the end of 2007.

In January 2009, Mosley knocked out Antonio Margarito. In the weeks following that, Mosley finally expressed some interest in fighting Mayweather. But Mayweather was still retired at this time. In May of that year, Mayweather announced he was coming back against Juan Manuel Marquez in July. Admittedly, fans would have rather seen Mayweather face Mosley, but for whatever reason Floyd decided against it. It may have been he wanted an easier opponent that he saw as a tune-up for a bout with Pacquiao. It could have been that now that Mosley needed him, he decided to give Mosley a taste of his own medicine. It may have been he viewed Mosley as too dangerous, but considering his previous overtures towards a fight with Mosley, that seems like a stretch.

Anyways, a rib injury suffered during training forced Floyd to postpone the fight to September. After Mayweather dominated all 12 rounds against Marquez, Max Kellerman was interviewing Mayweather in the ring. Apparently, Mosley couldn’t stand that the man he had refused to fight for 8 years was enjoying the moment after his victory. In an uncharacteristic and classless act, Mosley stormed into the ring interrupting the interview. Mosley challenged Mayweather there in the ring. Mayweather had wanted to fight Mosley for years. Mosley had numerous fights and victories in that time. Yet, Mayweather never once disrespected Mosley by interrupting one of his post-fight interviews. In fact, I don’t know of any other instance of such an act ever.

Mayweather dismissed Shane at that moment, wanting a fight with Manny Pacquiao. However, Mayweather found it as difficult as Mosley did in getting Pacquiao to fight him. So, Mayweather turned his attention back to Mosley. At the time “Sugar” Shane was still scheduled to fight Andre Berto on January 30th.

Now, it seems the fashionable thing to say is that Mayweather never wanted to fight Mosley, but was forced into it by public pressure after Berto pulled out. However, that is nothing other than a complete falsehood.

Lem Satterfield of boxing.fanhouse.com was one of the first to break the Mayweather-Mosley match; prior to Berto cancelling his date with “Sugar” Shane. Following is a list of other sources stating the same thing; that Mayweather and Mosley were already deep in talks for a bout against each other, while Mosley-Berto was still scheduled.

Mannypacquiaovs.com reported that Mosley was Mayweather’s plan B the whole time. It also reported Mosley still had to get past Berto. Ben Thomas of fighthype wrote “…it looks like Mayweather will forego fighting on the March 13th date in hopes of a potential big money showdown with “Sugar” Shane Mosley, provided Mosley does his job and gets past the undefeated Andre Berto on January 30th.” Spreadreport.com ran a similar article: “…he [Mayweather] will fight Shane Mosley (46-5, 39 Kos) on May 1likely in Las Vegas.” It continued, “Mosley, however, has a fight next week.” They quoted Lou Dibella, Berto’s promoter as saying, “He knows if he beats Shane Mosley and becomes an international boxing superstar, he will be in position to help the people of Haiti.” That doesn’t sound like Berto pulled out before negotiations between Mayweather and Mosley began.

It is also popular to dismiss the idea of Pacquiao fighting Mosley instead of Clottey since Berto had yet to pull out when Manny signed to fight Clottey. It seems Mayweather wasn’t the only one that considered fighting Mosley though. Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach had considered having Manny face the winner of Mosley-Berto when it started to look doubtful that they would strike a deal with Mayweather, according to 8countnews.com. That article was quite favourable to that idea. But it appears, Roach decided the same as he did previously, when Mosley was lobbying for a fight with Pacquiao last summer. Roach then stated there wasn’t enough money involved and that Mosley was too good. It’s hard to imagine anyone believes Clottey will generate more revenue than Mosley. Although few would argue Mosley isn’t still a talented and dangerous opponent.
